Lei Water Starts 14 September
Please make sure your channel is clear and ready to receive your turn.

Lei Water Is Currently Paused
Lei water is currently paused. Flow is expected to resume in Spring 2026 β the exact date will be posted here once it's known.
See Info & Rules βUnderstanding the Two Water Sources
Greyton's leiwater runs from two independent mountain sources that flow simultaneously.
ποΈ Bo Lei (Upper)
Fed by the Noupoort stream via mountain weirs. Services the upper villageβPark Street and properties closest to the nature reserve.
ποΈ Mid Lei (Middle)
Fed by the Gobos River weir. Services the historic village coreβMain Road, Ds Botha Street, and the commercial zone.
These are physically separate channels at different elevations. Water in the Bo Lei does not affect the Mid Lei, allowing properties in both zones to receive water at the same time.
Zone Reference
Each property is assigned to a zone based on which water channel services it.
| Zone | Area |
|---|---|
| Bo | Upper village, Park Street, properties near the nature reserve |
| Mid | Central historic village, Main Road, Ds Botha Street |
| Vlei | Lower areas near the vlei |
| Buite Vlei | Outer vlei properties |
How the Beurt (Turn) System Works
Each property with leiwater rights is allocated a specific weekly time slot called a beurt (Afrikaans for "turn"). During your beurt, you open your sluice gate to flood-irrigate your land.
Tip: Most properties have a leidam (storage pond) to hold water during their turn. You then use this stored water throughout the week for irrigation.
Rules & Etiquette
- β Keep your sluice gate accessible and in good working order
- β Clear leaves and debris from furrows on your property
- β Report blockages or leaks to the Water Bailiff immediately
- β Do not take water outside your allocated beurt
- β Do not dump garden refuse or litter into the furrows
- β Do not obstruct the furrow flow on public land
